The End Of The Big Three?

Congratulations Miami fans, your Heat are back to back Eastern Conference Champions, and now have a date with the Oklahoma City Thunder in the NBA Finals.  Game 7 was action packed tonight, with one Chris Bosh coming up huge for the Heat.  Bosh in only his third game back made his presence known with a dazzling performance including an 8-10 night from the floor.  Bosh went on to play 31 minutes off the bench and score 19 points, with 8 rebounds.  This was just what the heat needed out of their big man. Since he has been back, you can see that the paint play of the Celtics diminished a bit.

But what does all this mean for the C's and their 'big 3'.  With KG and Ray Allen to be unrestricted free agents, it appears to me that KG will more than likely retire.  Leaving Ray Allen to walk?  I think YES.

Mariners Use Six, No Hit The Dodgers

The Seattle Mariners used a combined six pitchers to no hit the Los Angeles Dodgers last night at Safeco Field.  It was almost two months ago when Phillip Humber was standing on that same mound attempting, and succeeding a perfect game.  This is the kind of performance that the whole Seattle sports community was urning for.  The starter, Kevin Millwood left after six innings after an apparent groin injury.  He was then replaced by five different pitchers; Furbush, Pryor, Luetge, League and Wilhelmsen awarded with the save.  All six pitchers hats, the lineup card, Wilhelmsens glove and the final ball are all being saved.  Let's not forget, Seattle only have one run of insurance to their credit.  The run came on a two-out rally started by Ichiro's infield single. He stole second, then Ackley walked and Seager came through with his 23rd two-out RBI of the season. His line-drive single off reliever Scott Elbert glanced off the glove of the leaping shortstop and later was dropped into left field.  "When you win a 1-0 ballgame in that fashion, so many different people have to step up, defensively and on the mound," Wedge said. "That's what you saw tonight."

Thomas Menino Should Stay In His Office

If there is one thing that Boston mayor Thomas Menino does correctly, it's butchering local sports stars names.  I'm sure that you all remember when he praised Jason Varitek for splitting the uprights in the 2002 Super Bowl, or when he called Gronk "Grabowski", but this latest one on Wednesday was over the top.  When asked about what the Celtics have a chance to achieve in game 6, Menino said this...

An Important Game You Probably Didn't Watch

The Boston Redsox rode on the back of Clay Buchholz as he threw a complete game shutout against the Baltimore Orioles. This win put the Sox over the .500 mark (once again) and gained momentum going into fridays much anticipated matchup against Steve Strasburg, Bryce Harper, and the rest of the 1st place Washington Nationals. Other key contributers to the win were Kevin Youkilis, Daniel Nava and Adrian Gonzalez.

Phillies "Phans-Ticked"

So what has gone wrong with the Philadelphia Phillies?  Usually by this time of the year, you can predict how the NL East will wind up.  With 5 consecutive division titles for the Phils, they should be in the contention this year, yet find themselves at the bottom of the totem pole.  A pole that seems to be completely upside-down in fact, with the exception of the Mets and Braves.  Perhaps it's the lackadaisical defense and less than average hitting that has produced a 28-30 season thus far.  Losing to inferior competion (Baltimore, Washington, NYM) and losing your regular 3 and 4 hitters in the lineup cause roster shifts, and faithful 'Phans' to panic.  The bullpen has also proved to be less than average with the exception of Jonathon Papelbon.  Walks and ERA are through the roof, and Washington isn't slowing down at the top.  In my opinion, if the Phillies want to compete in the fall they must start to win some series of their own.  Yet, when comparing the state this team is in compared to where the Phillies were in July 2010 (48-46 7 games out) this is a much better situation to be in.

Severe Storm Warning: OKC

Being up 3-2 in the series and a chance to clinch at home, the Oklahoma City Thunder were focused on one thing.  Just Win.  Down 15 at half, The Thunder headed into the locker room looking to turn it around.  With a dose of youth, agility, and a heroic 43 minute performance by Kevin Durant, it was achieved.  The speed and athleticism of the Thunder was overwhelming to the Spurs when Greg Popovich chose to play with a smaller squad throughout the second half.  The team was battle tested, being down 13 points twice in the series, coming back each of the two.  They just understand the game of basketball, even if they are very young.  A well-deserverd Western Conference Championship to the Thunder and Kevin Durant.  Sorry Seattle..
